This Christmas, when most 11-year-olds are enjoying winter break, Chloe King will be hundreds of miles from home. She’s landed the part of Clara in the Durham and Boston performances of the Radio City Music Hall production of “The Nutcracker.”

Recommended by Piedmont School of Music and Dance owner Rebecca Massey Wiley in Kannapolis, Chloe went to New York for a summer intensive, and entered auditions for the role. Of 300 girls trying out, six were chosen.

Chloe begins rehearsals in late October, and her first show will be Nov. 10 in Durham, with two to four shows each day through Nov. 27. Chloe first performed in “The Nutcracker” when she was 5: She was a gingersnap.

“I had my eye on Clara then,” she admits.
