When this year’s Southern Women’s Show opens Thursday at the Park Expo and Conference Center, hundreds will flock to the shopper’s paradise boasting a collection of vendors and special events as varied and unusual as the women who will attend.

The event offers runway shows, cooking classes, entertainment and the latest information on health and finances.

Celebrity appearances include author, NBC “Today” show correspondent and former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager, who’ll speak at 1 p.m. Thursday. In 2006, Hager traveled to Latin America as an intern with UNICEF, which inspired her to write the New York Times best-seller “Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope.” She’s currently the chair of UNICEF’s Next Generation, an initiative to improve the lives of children around the world.

And fresh off his tour with Taylor Swift, rising country star Hunter Hayes will perform at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Speakers also include three Observer columnists: food editor Kathleen Purvis, humorist Tracy Curtis and Deal Diva Tara McAlister.

Purvis shares the latest trends in cooking at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Curtis talks about being a writer and reads some of her favorite columns at 5 p.m. Friday and 1p.m. Saturday. And McAlister takes the stage at 5 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday for her tip-filled talk about couponing.

New this year is the CHA Craft Pavilion, designed for beginners, avid crafters and everyone in between. Expect to see 30 craft exhibits, plus demonstrations and workshops. It covers sewing, knitting, beading, needlework, scrapbooking, paper crafts and home décor, along with a chance to meet craft and hobby industry experts.
