Teaching, filming in India

By Brittany Penland

Tanvi Kumar, a senior at Charlotte Latin School, spent six weeks this past summer in India with the organization Save the Children India. At the nonprofit’s Delhi chapter, she helped teach basic English and computer skills, above, to girls rescued from trafficking.

“It has taught me to appreciate the value of what I have today – a dream for these underprivileged children,” Tanvi said.

Along with friend Ishan Krishan, from a Singapore high school, Tanvi produced a film for the organization to help generate awareness about the exploitation of women and girls. The two spent about 4-1/2 hours interviewing girls and their parents, then translated the piece into English and edited the film in a local studio.
