Artwork chosen for D.C. exhibit

CharlotteObserver.com

Charlotte Christian junior Carson Kowar has been chosen as one of 54 students from across the nation to have her art displayed in the U.S. Department of Education’s ART.WRITE.NOW DC exhibit. Kowar’s work, called “Rise Up In Courage Have Faith,” was inspired by her first mission trip to the Dominican Republic in 2010.

“I got to witness poverty like I had never seen it before, and what struck me the most was the joy and faith that even these little children had,” Kowar said. “I chose to do the picture of the girl praying because it represents how these children can have absolutely nothing but still look to God and have faith in him to get them through life.”

Kowar’s piece was one of 54, out of about 500, chosen for the exhibit from the 2011 Scholastic Art Awards.
