Charlotte-area postal workers, labors organizations and others are expected to rally today to urge U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick and other members of Congress to support President Obama's American Jobs Act and a plan to give more money to the U.S. Postal Service.
The rally is set for 1 to 2 p.m. today in front of Myrick's office in the SouthPark area. Among the organizations expected to appear are the National Association of Letter Carriers, American Postal Workers Union, Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, according to the state AFL-CIO chapter website.
Similar rallies are planned this week in Raleigh and Dunn to show support for the Jobs Act and H.R. 1351, which some hope could save the Postal Service from financial ruin.
A flyer for the event said organizations plan to urge Myrick to "Focus on what matters."
"While Sue Myrick frets about deficits and protecting herself and her big-money backers in the 1% from having to pay their fair share, the other 99% of us are tired of waiting for her to focus on what matters," the flyer states. "We have a JOBS CRISIS and Sue Myrick needs to get to work putting Americans back to work."
