Woman found dead outside SW Charlotte home

By Celeste Smith and Meghan Cooke

A 17-year-old woman was found dead in the yard of an unoccupied southwest Charlotte home early Saturday, police said, hours after a friend dropped her off there to meet someone.

Around 3:45 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a home in a cul-de-sac on Arbroath Court, located in a neighborhood off Steele Creek Road. When they arrived, officers found Aerial Patterson suffering from fatal injuries, according to police.

Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not described how she was killed.

A friend had dropped Patterson off at the home earlier to meet an unknown person “through a pre-arrangement,” police said. When the friend came back to pick up Patterson, she was found dead in the yard. Police said no one lives in the home where she was found.

Police didn’t elaborate on the nature of the meeting nor say whether they have any suspects in the case.

The friend of the victim is cooperating with the investigation, police said, and detectives are searching for witnesses.

Anyone with information about Patterson’s death is asked to call police at 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
