A Johnson & Wales University student reported he was pushed to the ground and robbed early Friday near the uptown campus, according to a crime alert issued by the university.
Around 3 a.m., the student was walking in a parking lot on West Trade Street, near Graham Street, when he was approached by three men, the crime alert said.
The men knocked him to the ground and took his wallet and cell phone, officials said. Then, the suspects fled in a white vehicle with black trim, traveling south on Graham Street away from campus.
The incident follows a string of robberies near Johnson & Wales earlier this year. In April, three armed robberies of students were reported around the campus within 10 days.
In response, the university beefed up its security, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police increased their patrols in the area.
It wasn't until September that another student reported being robbed. In that case, the student was walking near the corner of Trade and Cedar streets when a suspect struck him in the head with a glass bottle and took his money, officials said.
One of the suspects in Friday's robbery was described as a black male with short dreadlocks who is about 6-feet-tall and muscular. Little description was given on the other two suspects.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating.
