UP | Let Me Run: 228 school-age boys will run a 5K on Nov. 19 at McAlpine Park. The event supports Let Me Run (letmrun.org), which seeks to help boys reach their full potential via healthy relationships.

UP | Stephanie Watts, Weddington girls' basketball: 5-foot-9 guard was one of 113 players from 13 states who recently played in the EBA Rising Stars and Position Camp in Marietta, Ga. Watts was picked by ESPN/Hoop Gurlz as one "who caught our eye."

UP | Sydel Curry, Charlotte Christian volleyball: Yes, another talented Curry in Charlotte. Sydel made all-N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association. Brother Seth is a starting guard on Duke's basketball team and oldest brother Stephen is an NBA star with Golden State.

UP | Statesville Christian girls' tennis: Won eighth straight private school state title Saturday.

Mark Blackmon, West Charlotte cross country: Senior and a three-time S.C. 4A champion while at Fort Mill, won Saturday's N.C. 4A West Regional in 15 minutes, 35 seconds to equal the sixth-fastest time by a Mecklenburg County boy in McAlpine Park's 32-year history.

Soccer: Playoffs will kick off tonight but one of the biggest matches will be Wednesday at Hough, when the Huskies, No. 1 in the Sweet 16, face state power Ardrey Kell.

Providence Day Super Showcase: 24 of the area's top girls' basketball teams will scrimmage Saturday at Providence Day starting at 8:30 a.m. Admission is $5. Teams include Freedom, Oak Hill (Va.), Forestview, Scotland County, North Iredell, Concord, Charlotte Catholic, Bishop McGuinness and Greensboro Dudley.

Golf

Ardrey Kell has a one shot lead after the first day of the N.C. 4A girls' golf championships at Pinehurst No. 1. Ardrey Kell was state champion in 2010.

Individually, Raleigh Wakefield's Stephanie Pribonic and Sara Bae of Raleigh Athens Drive each shot 74 on a chilly day to take a one-shot advantage over three golfers. Tied at 75, one stroke back, are Victoria Allred of Pfafftown Reagan, Allyson Markiewicz of Ardrey Kell and Emiley Pagrabs of Wilmington Hoggard. The course is set at par 71 and a 5,735-yard layout for the championship.

Salisbury's Isabella Rusher shot a 3-over 74 at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club in Southern Pines to grab a three-shot lead in the N.C. 1A/2A state championships.

Salisbury leads the team standings, 20 strokes below East Surry. Individually, Salisbury's Lily Yatawara (81) is fourth.

Marvin Ridge is four shots off the team lead at the N.C. 3A championships at Foxfire Resort in Foxfire Village. Ledford (270) is in first place. Individually, junior Tara Simmons of Pikeville Aycock shot a 76 and has a six-stroke lead. Marvin Ridge's Rachel Walker (85) is nine shots back. Concord's Sarah Bertram (86) is 10 back.

Tennis

Charlotte Catholic beat Weddington 6-3 on the road in the third round of the N.C. 3A dual-team playoffs. The Cougars advance to Wednesday's regional final at home against Asheville, which beat Hickory 6-3.

Greensboro Grimsley beat Providence 6-0 in a quarterfinal dual-team match to advance to Wednesday's state 4A semifinal. Grimsley will play Myers Park, which ousted Lake Norman 5-1.

In 2A, Salisbury beat Bunker Hill 9-0 to advance to the regional final Wednesday. Salisbury will face either Shelby or West Davidson.

In 1A, East Montgomery beat East Wilkes 7-2, and Mount Airy eliminated Gray Stone Day 6-0 in fourth-round matches.
