Field to Fork Pizza Garden seeks applicants
The Field to Fork Program is a 6-month partnership (January-June) with CMS elementary classes to address childhood obesity through hands-on learning of gardening, nutrition and healthy eating. Partners of the project include CMS, Mecklenburg County Fruit & Vegetable Coalition, Charlotte Green, and Fuel Pizza Café.
This year, the program partners will select 14 schools to participate. Schools will participate in learning, teamwork, gardening -- and eating pizza at Fuel Pizza Café.
Applications can be submitted through 5 p.m. Dec. 7. A completed application includes the eight-question survey application, emailed pictures of current garden or potential garden space, and a letter of support from the school's principal. Selected schools will be notified the first week of January 2012.
The program application, further details about the program and eligibility are located at www.surveymonkey.com/s/78P8WVY.
For questions, contact me, Katie Cooper, the 2012 program coordinator, via email, or Allison Mignery, physical activity and nutrition supervisor at the Mecklenburg County Health Department, and chairperson of the Mecklenburg County Fruit & Vegetable Coalition, at (704) 432-3468.
