South Mecklenburg senior Shana Shuemate recently presented her graduation project – but for Shana, the project doesn’t end there. A lover of animals, Shana has wanted to be a veterinarian her whole life. For her project, she wanted to raise awareness about dog fighting, in an effort to prevent the sport.
Using sewing skills from her Apparel II class, Shana made and embroidered fabric key chains with “S.T.F.” (Stop The Fight) on them, which she sold, sending the proceeds of more than $100 to the Humane Society of Charlotte. She also started a website, http://survivethefight.webnode.com, which she keeps updated with news and information on dog fighting and prevention methods.
