BROOKLYN, N.Y. Charlotte's basketball team had three players with double-figure scoring, but that was not enough as the 49ers suffered their first loss of the season Friday, 81-72 to Long Island in the Turkey Classic.
"I was disappointed with our effort today," Charlotte coach Cara Consuegra said. "You have to give credit to Long Island for their play today. We battled back at the end of the game but it was too little too late."
Epiphany Woodson led the 49ers (5-1) with her sixth straight double-figure game with 21 points, including five 3-pointers.
Jennifer Hailey added 14 points and seven rebounds and Jai Forney contributed 12 points and six rebounds for the 49ers. Long Island improved to 3-1.
Charlotte will face Florida today at 2 p.m.
Princeton 53, Davidson 44: The Tigers' Niveen Rasheed scored a game-high 24 points to go with nine rebounds against visiting Davidson.
Rasheed hit 10 of 18 shots for Princeton (5-0) and scored 14 of her 24 points in the first half. Sophia Aleksandracivius had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats (2-3).
Johnson C. Smith 54, Florida Institute of Technology 50: LaQwesha Gamble had 20 points and 19 rebounds as the Golden Bulls (5-0) topped the Panthers (4-1) in the Rollins College Thanksgiving Classic at Winter Park, Fla.
No. 7 Duke 97, Gardner-Webb 31: Tricia Liston scored 23 points to help No. 7 Duke rout Gardner-Webb in the Junkanoo Jam in Freeport, Bahamas.
Chloe Wells added 14 points, making all five of her shots - including three 3-pointers. Elizabeth Williams had 13 points and Shay Selby 11 for the Blue Devils (5-0).
Duke will face fourth-ranked Notre Dame for the championship tonight.
Catrina Green scored 10 points to lead Gardner-Webb (0-5).
No. 3 Stanford 80, Xavier 64: Third-ranked Stanford blew open a close game in the second half by getting the ball inside to Nnemkadi Ogwumike, who scored a season-high 34 points and for the Cardinal (4-1) against Xavier (1-3).
No. 4 Notre Dame 80, Southern California 58: Skylar Diggins scored 22 and Natalie Novosel added 17 to help the Irish (4-1) beat Southern California (1-3) in the Junkanoo Jam tournament.
No. 5 Texas A&M 71, Temple 59: The Owls used a 22-6 run to cut a second-half 20-point deficit to four points, but Texas A&M (5-0) pulled away for the victory against Temple (2-3) in the Junkanoo Jam.
No. 8 Maryland 84, Florida International 52: Laurin Mincy and Lynetta Kizer scored 15 each to lead the Terrapins (6-0) over host Florida International (2-3).
The Terrapins were never threatened after a late-first half run and then expanded a 44-30 lead at halftime with an 18-7 spurt in the opening 6:41 of the second half.
No. 11 Louisville 85, Florida State 76: Shoni Schimmel scored 25 and Monique Reid added 23 for visiting Louisville. Schimmel, who hit 4 of 9 3-point shots, nailed one from long range with 4:23 left that broke a tie at 66 and the Cardinals (5-1) didn't look back.
Cierra Bravard scored a career-high 27 points for Florida State (3-3), which committed 24 turnovers.
No. 12 Oklahoma 76, Liberty 45: Morgan Hook and Aaryn Ellenberg scored 22 apiece to help the Sooners (3-0) rout Liberty (2-3) in Vanderbilt's Thanksgiving tournament in Nashville, Tenn. Oklahoma will play Vanderbilt in today's championship.
No. 14 Kentucky 73, Sam Houston State 52: At Lexington, Ky., Keyla Snowden scored 19 and the Wildcats (6-0) overcame a slow start to beat the Bearkats (2-2).
Leading by seven at the half, the Wildcats used a 10-2 surge early in the second half to put the game out of reach.
No. 13 Rutgers 59, Georgia Tech 40: April Sykes had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights (5-0) against Georgia Tech (4-1) in San Juan, Puerto. The Scarlet Knights held the Yellow Jackets to 21 percent shooting.
Tyuanna Marshall scored 12 points for Georgia Tech.
No. 17 Penn State 66, Iowa State 59: Maggie Lucas scored 18 points, including six in the final minutes, to help Penn State (4-1) beat the Cyclones (3-1) in the opening round of the John Ascuaga's Nugget Classic in Reno, Nev.
No. 18 Ohio State 84, Stony Brook 37: Samantha Prahalis had 25 points and 11 assists in 28 minutes to lead host Ohio State. Prahalis equaled her season scoring average of 15 in the first half, despite sitting the final 5 minutes, and the Buckeyes (4-0) forced Stony Brook (1-4) into missing 24 of its first 26 shots.
No. 24 Texas 79, No. 22 Virginia 53: Chassidy Fussell scored 30 and Texas (3-1) breezed past Virginia in the Waikiki Beach tournament in Honolulu. Ariana Moorer led Virginia (4-1) with 17 points.
West Virginia 63, No. 25 UCLA 54: Taylor Palmer scored 18 in West Virginia's (3-1) victory over the Bruins (2-2) in the first round of the Thanksgiving Classic at Cal State Northridge.
Wake Forest 83, Jacksonville 54: Sandra Garcia scored 20 on 10-of-12 shooting for the Deacons (4-1) against Jacksonville (0-5).
