The man charged with murder and DWI in a crash that killed a 26-year-old woman and critically injured her 4-year-old son appeared in court Tuesday.
Eric Jonathan Cox, 31, was arrested early Monday after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said he ran a red light at East Sugar Creek Road and The Plaza and slammed into a vehicle driven by H'Luon Siu. She died in the crash.
Prosecutors asked a judge Tuesday to set Cox's bail at $2 million. But Cox's parents pleaded for a lesser amount. Judge Donald Cureton set Cox's bail at $350,000 for the murder charge.
Cox is a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Iraq war. According to police, a judge previously restricted him to have no more than a 0.04 blood alcohol level after he was convicted of DWI after a September 2009 arrest.
If he posts bail, Cox will be on 24-hour house arrest and wear a bracelet that monitors alcohol use.
