Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Matthews police charged and arrested nine motorists for driving while intoxicated at an overnight DWI checkpoint in the 6700 block of Idlewild Road near Cedarwild Road.

Two of the motorists arrested for driving while intoxicated were under age 21, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Sgt. David Sloan said.

Police issued a total of 62 charges, including 16 for motorists having no operator's license and 12 for driving while their licenses were revoked.

The checkpoint from 11 p.m. Thursday to 3 this morning was part of the Holiday "Booze it and Lose it" Campaign that will continue through Jan 2, police said.
