Christmas parades, events this weekend

More than a dozen towns and cities in the Charlotte region will celebrate the holiday season with Christmas parades and other events this weekend.

Among the bigger events will be the annual parades in Kannapolis, Lancaster and Statesville. Kannapolis and Lancaster will hold parades this evening, and Statesville's event is Sunday.

A schedule of this weekend's holiday parades:

TODAY

Cat Square (Lincoln): 2 p.m., on Zur Leonard Road.

Cherryville (Gaston): 10:30 a.m., along Main, Mulberry and First streets.

Fallston (Cleveland): 2 p.m., in the downtown area, starting at Fallston Elementary School.

Fort Lawn, S.C. (Chester): 2 p.m., on Main Street, from U.S. 21 to Municipal Drive.

Kannapolis (Cabarrus): 6 p.m., downtown area.

Kingstown (Cleveland): 1 p.m., in the central business district, from Palmer Grove Church to Kingstown Park.

Lancaster, S.C. (Lancaster): 6 p.m., along Main Street.

Lake Wylie: 6:30 p.m., Boats on the Lake Paradem near the Buster Boyd Bridge on N.C. 49.

Latta Plantation (Huntersville): Candlelight Christmas, 6-9 p.m., Sample Road. The park will host a re-creation of an 1820s-era Christmas celebration.

Lowell (Gaston): 3 p.m., in central business district.

Richburg, S.C. (Chester): 11 a.m., Old Richburg Road and Main Street.

Rutherford College (Burke): 3 p.m., on Malcolm Boulevard, from First Baptist Church to Crosslink and Church streets.

Van Wyck, S.C. (York): Noon, downtown area.

SUNDAY

Casar (Cleveland): 3 p.m., in the downtown area, starting at Casar Elementary School.

High Shoals (Gaston): 3 p.m., starting at New Heights Baptist Church.

Statesville (Iredell): 3 p.m., on Center Street, from downtown to the high school.
