It’s crunch time – the last weekend before Christmas and Hanukkah. Are you like me, scrambling to get everything done? I think having all of next week is fooling me into thinking I have more time than I actually do, forgetting that my list is long, there are only 24 hours in a day and I need to sleep – for some of those hours, anyway!

Take time this weekend to do something fun. Make the time together – or time to yourself – a gift. Last Saturday was supposed to be my shopping day. Instead, on the spur of the moment, I took my daughter to the Piedmont Dance Theatre’s production of the Nutcracker. What a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Beats fighting crowds at the stores any day!

Here’s a hodge-podge of holiday happenings this weekend, the last one to cram in as many Currier and Ives moments as possible. If you know of others, please list them in the comments section below. The more…the merrier!

Our Town Cinemas “Miracle on 34th Street”
Tomorrow’s your last chance to catch this holiday classic on the big screen! Our Town Cinemas in Davidson presents “Miracle on 34th Street” many times today and tomorrow. Tickets are $7.50, with $1 from each ticket donated to the Ada Jenkins Center.

Havana Social Club Annual Christmas Showcase
A night of dancing and great performances awaits when the Havana Social Club in Cornelius presents its Christmas Showcase on Sunday, Dec. 18. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m. Light appetizers and dancing follow the show. Tickets are $15. Contact 704-892-7000 for more details.

Downtown Mooresville’s Holiday Light Spectacular
The Mooresville Town Hall lawn shines brightly with over 25,000 lights set to music. Come see the Holiday Light Spectacular every December evening from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. A free treat for the entire family. Stop by this Friday night from 6-8 p.m. and enjoy other holiday-themed activities taking place between Broad and Main streets, including a Christmas tree lane, Santa visits, wagon rides and more.

Dance Davidson Nutcracker Performance
Rats and nutcrackers come to life at Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall this Sunday, Dec. 18 as Dance Davidson presents “The Nutcracker.” Two performances take place at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. To purchase tickets ($18; $10 standing room): email TKnox@dancedavidson.com to receive a ticket application, visit the theatre on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or purchase them hour before either show on Sunday.

Community Yoga Holiday Bazaar
If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the yogi on your list, nothing beats a gingerman-doing-yoga tree ornament. You’ll find these, and other fun gift ideas at Community Yoga in Cornelius this Saturday, Dec. 17 from 1-4 p.m. Vendors on site will offer products and services including jewelry, holiday décor, crafts, baked goods, mini-facials and massages. Additionally, the studio will host mini-classes for people to try different types of yoga. 20823 N. Main St., Cornelius.
