Union authorities are trying to learn more about a man's body found inside a burned car overnight.

An incident report from the Union Sheriff's Office lists the victim as Scott Amos McClintock, 24.

Crews were called to the 2000 block of Purser Rushing Road in Unionville around 10 p.m. Wednesday after getting reports of explosions at a house. That’s when they found the car on fire, and later discovered the body.

Officials think the fire may have started in the car's engine.

A man and woman seen entering the house Thursday morning said a single woman lived at the home, but was not there at the time of the fire. They said they believe the car belonged to the woman’s boyfriend. They did not want to give their names.

They said an earlier report from a neighbor about a man and his 7-year-old living at the home was incorrect. Those were previous tenants, they said.

The car has been removed from the scene, though one could still spot charred portions of the driveway this morning. Some vinyl siding on the house also melted in the fire.

The Union Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation of the case.
