Jessica Allison, an Olympic High senior, was inspired after learning about diabetes through her school's Health Occupations Students of America club, and decided to raise money for Charlotte's Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

She researched the disease, contacted the media and raised $212 for the foundation, in part by convincing four area bakeries and a sign/logo company to donate time and products to her school's "Sweet Paradox" bake sale. There, Jessica educated students and faculty about diabetes. It "gave me an opportunity to dispel the myths about diabetes and discuss the importance of research for this disease," said Jessica.
