The Charlotte Bobcats have until Friday to decide whether to match the offer sheet the Memphis Grizzlies signed with restricted free agent Dante Cunningham.

Bobcats player-personnel chief Rod Higgins received the offer sheet late Tuesday afternoon. He said the team would wait at least until today to decide what to do.

The offer sheet is a three-year contract, with the final season at the team's option. Cunningham would be paid $2 million this season - about double the Bobcats' qualifying offer to restrict his free-agency - and slightly more in the second and third seasons. Matching Memphis' offer would obligate the Bobcats to a little more than $4 million in guarantees.

Cunningham came to Charlotte from Portland last February, as part of the package for forward Gerald Wallace. In 22 games with the Bobcats, playing mostly small forward, he averaged nine points, four rebounds and 51 percent shooting from the field.

Cunningham was arrested during April in suburban Philadelphia, when a police officer found a loaded BB gun and a trace amount of marijuana in his truck during a traffic stop. The drug and BB gun charges were dropped and Cunningham paid a fine for a noise violation.

Since last season, the Bobcats traded for Corey Maggette and signed Derrick Brown to play small forward. Brown played well in Monday's exhibition victory over the Atlanta Hawks, with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes.

Biyombo's debut: Rookie Bismack Biyombo had to sit out the first week of training camp. If that set him back, his teammates couldn't tell.

"The way he was running up and down the court, you would swear he's been practicing the last two weeks," Maggette said. "He's learning the sets right away and doing the things he's supposed to."

Tuesday was the first time Biyombo was cleared to practice with his new team. Over the weekend, the Bobcats worked out a settlement with Biyombo's Spanish team, allowing him to sign an NBA contract Monday.

Biyombo relished the chance to practice, but he still doesn't feel quite like an NBA player.

"Until I actually play in a (regular-season) game, I can't say my dream has come true," said the power forward-center from the Congo.

Having to sit through the first week of practice wasn't just depressing, it made Biyombo feel he was letting down his new bosses.

"The team drafted me (seventh overall), and really expected me to be on the floor," Biyombo said.

"So it wasn't just a disappointment for me, it was for the guys who drafted me."

Injuries: The ailments are piling up among key players. As expected, power forward Tyrus Thomas (sprained left ankle) couldn't practice Tuesday.

Neither could point guard D.J. Augustin, who hyper-extended his right elbow during Monday's exhibition.

There's no timetable for either starter's return. Thomas said Monday night he doesn't expect to play Thursday against the Hawks in Atlanta, the last of two exhibitions this preseason.

Maggette practiced for the first time in about five days. He's been suffering from back spasms but says he should be fine for the opener Monday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

"It's doing better," said Maggette, who suffered a similar injury about eight years ago.

"It kind of shuts off your legs and restricts you. It's like a motor - you have to get it going again. But once it's going, I'll be fine."

Notes: New Bobcat Byron Mullens didn't arrive in time to practice Tuesday. The Bobcats acquired 7-foot Mullens from the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2013 second-round pick.

Mullens wasn't playing much behind a number of Thunder big men. He spent portions of his two NBA seasons with the Thunder's development-league affiliate in Tulsa.

Bobcats coach Paul Silas missed practice Tuesday to get treatment for chronic pain in one of his knees. Assistant coach Stephen Silas ran practice in his father's absence.
