Last week I saw a friend at Target and as you do this time of year, we asked each other about plans for the holidays. “This year we’re going to Great Wolf Lodge instead of New Jersey!” she said. And I thought that sounded so cool. I’m not sure her friends and relatives in Jersey agree, but c’est la vie!

If you’ve never been to Great Wolf Lodge, the indoor water park in Concord, the week betweenChristmas and New Year’s might be a great time to go. The office won’t miss you. The kids are home for the entire week and by Monday will be begging for things to do. And this could provide the perfect “get away from it all” experience that doesn’t require leaving the state.

Great Wolf is more than just a waterpark, although that’s obviously the focal point. There’s an adventure for every family member, including the Cub Paw Pool for little ones up to the Howlin’ Tornado funnel drop for the more adventurous types. But the resort’s other amenities include onsite dining, shopping, fitness facilities and spas (for kids and adults).

The suites alone are enough to entice me. Remember, overnight stay is required for the waterpark experience. But after a day at the park, you’d rather crash in the suite than drive home anyway. Splurge for one of the themed suites for an even more memorable experience.

There’s also nightly shows and kid’s story time. It’s kind of like Vegas meets Mister Rogers…on a lazy river.
