Zumba, the Latin-inspired dance workout, has wiggled itself into the Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends for 2012, according to the American College of Sports Medicine; 2,600 fitness professionals completed its survey in October. Today, about 12 million people take weekly Zumba classes across 125 countries.
Zumbas pumping class combines upbeat music with dance moves. It also features interval training sessions, where fast and slow rhythms are combined to tone and sculpt the body while burning fat, sometimes 500-800 calories per hour.
In a SELF magazine review, one Zumba instructor described the workout this way: What makes Zumba such a great workout is that you're constantly moving. It's a cardio workout, but on top of endurance it also improves agility and strengthens your lower body, legs, hips, butt, and thighs.
