The same color trends found in fashion also apply to the home. Color blocking, hot in late 2011, will continue into the new year as a popular look, along with pairing strong grays and other neutrals with brights.
Farrow & Ball, a paint and wallpaper company based in Dorset, England, is on top of the color trends with a variety of options for freshening up your home. Some pairings the company suggests:
Pigeon, All White and Incarnadine: Pigeon is a mix of blue, green and gray tones, giving a weathered look that feels worn in and comfortable, especially when matched with chalky shades. The color pops when paired with All White and accented with Incarnadine, a rich, crimson red with orange undertones.
Brassica, Strong White and Dove Tale: Brassica is a pale gray-purple, named after the tones often seen in the brassica family of vegetables. Pairing it with Strong White and Dove Tale - a stony-gray - gives a sophisticated, modern and elegant look that's not too formal.
Babouche, Blackened and Pavilion Gray: Babouche, an effervescent yellow, is bold and warm and works well in a matte finish or, to really make a statement, in a full gloss. Paired with neutrals, the yellow will add a sense of fun to a room. For a warm, contemporary look, pair with Blackened, a very slight gray, and Pavilion Gray, a cool, pale brown-gray.
