Matchup to Watch

Carmelo Anthony vs. Tyrus Thomas: Anthony is dangerous as a post-up guy and a jump-shooter. Guarding him pretty much can exhaust the opposing player's energy, but Anthony's skill set is wide and he's extremely strong..

Observations

Rookie Iman Shumpert took over for Toney Douglas as starting point guard, with Douglas still hurting from offseason shoulder surgery. Shumpert already has become the people's choice among Knicks fans.

Back-to-back home losses to the Raptors and Bobcats by the Knicks predictably sent the New York tabloids into hyper-crisis. The Bobcats were called "pathetic," and losing to them a "fiasco."

The Bobcats are coming off a second-half collapse at Indiana, resulting in a 22-point loss to the Pacers. Coach Paul Silas expressed great concern with his team's toughness.

The Bobcats didn't practice Sunday, and it's hard to say who would start at center. It could be Gana Diop or Byron Mullens. Or Silas could go back to Boris Diaw in the middle.

Tap-ins

The Knicks undoubtedly will adjust to Diaw's pick-and-pop jump shots after he burned them for 27 points last week.

Mike Bibby came off the bench in Detroit to give the Knicks 16 points at point guard.

Did you know?

Mullens' 11 rebounds against the Pacers more than doubled his career high of five in an NBA game. Silas has been after 7-footer Mullens to be more active under the boards.
