African-American filmmakers haven't had many local forums that survived more than a few years, but they can count on Deltas of Charlotte Foundation Inc. The Deltas will host their ninth annual Legacy Film Showcase on Friday.
The nonprofit fundraising partner of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority (Charlotte alumnae chapter) will show five short films in McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square, 345 N. College St., on the 99th anniversary of the sorority's founding.
The Deltas are keeping two titles under wraps, but three are announced: "Corporate Politics" (written, directed and produced by Charlotte's Ablavi Gbenyon of Sole Cinema); "Twin-emies: They Shared the Womb But Won't Share the Will" and "Nick of Time."
The evening opens with a reception at 6:30, followed by prize-winning shorts at 7:30. Tickets are $20; they're available online at www.carolina tix.org , the Spirit Square box office or 704-372-1000. Part of the cost is tax-deductible.
The festival also includes opportunities to shop from local vendors, and some of the event's proceeds support college scholarships for women in the Charlotte area.
