A small shed's life on the farm goes on ...

Since I got an off-farm job, I'm now working Saturdays when I get home from the market and on Sundays to try and catch up.

Last Sunday - New Year's Day - Levi and I sawed an 8- by 16-foot portable shed in two with my reciprocating saw.

This shed has a history. I bought it used about 15 years ago, and it was built as a pasture shelter for sows. We used it to house sheep and Holstein bottle-fed calves early on. Later, it was one of our first mobile sheds for laying hens. At one point, we put a floor in it and used it for a brooder for chicks. It reverted back to a shelter for laying hens, and, as of Sunday, it has been cut in two and is now a shelter for pigs.

New manager

Jenifer is learning new skills: Draining water lines and hooking them back up when it gets above freezing the next day. She is doing an awesome job as the new farm manager.
