It's been inevitable for about a week that Boris Diaw would lose his starting spot. He wasn't producing, and coach Paul Silas' frustration seemed to grow with each loss.
Former Bobcats coach Larry Brown accepted Diaw's quirky personality and inconsistent performances because Brown so valued Diaw's wide skill set. Silas sees power forward -- the position he excelled at as a player -- as a position that demands constant passion and toughness.
As Charles Barkley said on national television recently, Diaw is a nice guy but a relatively passionless player. As Barkley put it, he (Barkley) always went out to kick someone's butt, and Diaw isn't of that nature.
This was the first time in Diaw's 236 games as a Bobcat that he didn't start. I hope this doesn't evolve into a messy divorce. I've got to believe the front office will look into a trade -- Diaw makes $9 million under an expiring contract. But it would be problematic for the Bobcats to take back salary in a deal that goes beyond this season.
