Tri.p.i.t.s.

Sometimes the coolest creations are simply stumbled upon. Such was the case with Tri.p.i.t.s., which stands for Tri (3-piece) Personal Inspiration Trinkets to Share. Local lady Kara Larson created them, but it was her 9-year-old daughter who came up with the idea. The detachable necklace has various clasps that come undone, allowing teens and 'tweens to trade pieces or create alternative baubles in the form of anklets, bracelets and even ponytail holders. Each comes with a charm communicating an inspirational message ("Give," "Stand Tall" and "Smile," for example).

Necklaces retail for $19.99 and bracelets are $13.99. Find these fun pieces at Learning Express in the StoneCrest Shopping Center; additional retail locations are listed at www.tripitsjewelry.com.

Personalized Pendant

Picture this: a double-sided medallion that can include a photo on each side, a crafted creation or even a creation by your kindergartener. Head to The Bean & Belle Art Studio in downtown Waxhaw, where you can color miniature artworks, glue together the perfect pieces for your pièce de résistance or simply bring your photos to affix on both sides of your future pendant. Studio owner Jen Williams will solder the edges of the pendant before placing it on a chain. After it's all said and done, the cost to you is just $10. Host a birthday party, shower, girls' night out or Girl Scout outing to craft your creation. No desire to drive out there? Not to worry. Click and send your photos, and she'll take care of the rest. Shipping costs are extra.

Junque Arte

What may appear to be useless trinkets to one person are being fabricated into beautiful baubles and pretty pendants by another local artist. Patricia Marquardt creates one-of-a-kind pendants and bracelets by wiring together antique pieces (think old locker keys, watch faces and such) and combining them with stones such as pearls, Swarovski crystals, aquamarine and more. The result? An alluring, antique feel that creates quite an appeal, as does the notion that she's reusing materials. "Junque Arte" jewels can be found at Eliza B. in the Arboretum Shopping Center, where they retail for $34.95.
