CHAPEL HILL North Carolina junior Dexter Strickland will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament in Thursday's win at Virginia Tech.
Strickland was hurt when his knee buckled on a drive early in the second half. The school said Friday that Strickland's surgery to repair the injury hasn't been scheduled yet.
The 6-foot-3 guard had started every game for the eighth-ranked Tar Heels, averaging about eight points and shooting a team-best 57 percent while thriving in transition. He was the team's top perimeter defender and doubled as the No. 2 ballhandler behind point guard Kendall Marshall.
Attorney: Maine accuser to drop suit against Fine: The attorney for a Maine man who accused fired Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine of molesting him says he's dropping a civil lawsuit filed in Pittsburgh.
Jeffrey R. Anderson, attorney for Zach Tomaselli, says in a statement that he "will be dismissing his case" against Fine.
Tomaselli, 23, told The Post-Standard of Syracuse in an interview Friday that he altered emails from Syracuse police before forwarding them to the paper in an attempt to bolster his account. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Tomaselli insists he did not "fabricate the story" about Fine molesting him when he was 13. Two former ballboys also accused Fine of molesting them.
Fine has denied the men's allegations.
Only Tomaselli's case falls within the statute of limitations.
Oklahoma State: Regents have approved a raise of nearly $100,000 for Jim Littell, who became the women's basketball coach after Kurt Budke died in a plane crash last fall.
Littell is set to make just less than $300,000 annually over the course of a four-year contract. University officials said that although the terms were approved Friday, Littell's new contract is not finalized yet, so a copy was not available.
The Cowgirls have won nine of 13 games since Littell took over after Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna were killed in a Nov. 17 plane crash while recruiting in Arkansas. He led Oklahoma State to its second win in the Bedlam rivalry against Oklahoma since 1999, a span of 26 games.
Littell had been the top assistant under Budke for six years, including three trips to the NCAA tournament and two appearances in the WNIT.
