Belmont turns to goats for kudzu problem

Belmont leaders recently approved about $12,000 to try a new way of getting a handle on kudzu in one part of the city: goats.

The Gaston Gazette reports that goats from Wells Farm will be brought in this May and again in the fall to help clear kudzu at Belmont’s River Park.

The farm’s owner told the Gazette the work could take up to eight weeks.

The website for Wells Farm said the company has been hired to clear kudzu and other invasive weeds for local governments, HOAs, commercial projects and private land owners. “Our goats can easily turn slopes heavy with invading weeds into a closely shorn masterpiece that resembles a freshly mowed fairway,” states a quote on the website.
