Cannon School

School hosts Chinese students: Seventeen students and two teachers from Tianli International School are living with Cannon School host families and attending classes at Cannon during a two-week cultural exchange in January.

Tianli International, sister school to Cannon, is in Luzhou, a town founded in 135 B.C. in central China.

Concord High

Healthcare program: Three Concord High School students participated in the Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast Diversity in Healthcare Physician's Mentoring Program.

Jasmine Brown, Jeremiah Nance and Emilio Quintin Renteria were selected for the program based on their academic grade-point averages, essays and interest in careers in the medical profession.

Pitts School Road Elementary

Support sought: The school is in an online contest and needs public support to win $10,000 for its library.

The school is a finalist in an IKEA-sponsored project, The Life Improvement Project. Vote at www.ikea.com to help update the school library.

W.R.Odell Elementary

Geography bee: Students competed in the school's National Geographic Geography Bee on Jan. 9.

Fourth-grader Sarah Trantham took first place. Sarah and Creed Cagle were runners-up.

Concord and Jay M. Robinson High Schools

Competition results: The schools recently co-hosted the Marketing Competitive Events Conference, a DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) competition, for Region 6.

The awards were based on role-play scenarios and online test scores. Student winners are listed by category:

Retail merchandising (role play) : Tiffany Shine and Olivia Newell, Jay M. Robinson High, placed in the top five.

Combined score: Tiffany Shine, Jay M. Robinson High, placed fifth.

Sports and entertainment marketing (online test): Nic Isom, Jay M. Robinson High, placed in the top five.

Combined score: Nic Isom, Jay M. Robinson High School, took second place.

Principles of marketing (online test) : Megan Burr, Thomas Cox, Jeremy Quesada and Ebony Carter of Jay M. Robinson High School, and Harmony Houston of Concord High School all placed in the top eight.

Role play: Ebony Carter, Justine Damiani and Andre Aquiar of Jay M. Robinson High and Harmony Houston of Concord High School placed in the top eight.

Combined score: Megan Burr, Jay M. Robinson High, first; Jeremy Quesada, Jay M. Robinson High, second; Ebony Carter, Jay M. Robinson High, fourth; Harmony Houston, Concord High, third.

U.S. Service Academies

Nominations: Senator Kay Hagen has announced 50 N.C. students who received her nomination to attend a U.S. Service Academy in 2012.
