'Help' on window saves Hickory man

HICKORY -- A "help" message scrawled on a fogged-up truck window helped save a Hickory man from alleged carjackers, the Hickory Daily Record reports.

According to a Daily Record story, Martin Cervantez, 48, was carjacked early Thursday on Second Avenue, NE, as he drove home from work about 2 a.m. Police say two men got into his truck and drove him to several locations, beating him and stealing his wallet in the process.

When a police officer stopped the truck because it was weaving, he noticed a message that Cervantez had written.

Police charged brothers Justin Maltba, 24, and Scottie Maltba, 19, with robbery and kidnapping, the Daily Record reported.
