100 mph motorcycle chase ends with arrest

MORGANTON -- A 21-year-old Burke County man faces multiple charges after leading authorities on a high-speed motorcycle chase Wednesday, according to the Morganton News-Herald.

Travis Jeffrey Long, 21, of Connelly Springs, was arrested early Wednesday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed in a muddy field near the town of Rutherford College, the News-Herald said.

According to the paper, the chase began when a sheriff's deputy clocked a motorcyclist going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone on Rhodhiss Road. The deputy pursued the motorcyclist, and when the pursuit moved onto U.S. 70, the motorcyclist drove at speeds of up to 100 mph, the News-Herald reported.

The pursuit ended when the motorcyclist ran through a fence on a dead-end road.
