Four people were injured late Friday morning in a wreck on Wilkinson Boulevard in west Charlotte.

The wreck was reported about 11 a.m. in the 5600 block of Wilkinson. That is near Harlee Avenue.

Charlotte fire Capt. Ron Brisley said a crew of 18 firefighters needed about 10 minutes to free a person who was trapped in one of the vehicles. A spokeswoman for Medic said four people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Their injuries were described as potentially life-threatening.

Wilkinson Boulevard was closed for a short time but travel lanes are open now. Police are investigating the cause of the wreck.
