The search for a burglary suspect led to a police chase and crash Friday in Gaston County.
Gaston County police said they were helping the York County Sheriff's Office find 53-year-old Sam Peden Harrington, who was wanted on charges of first-degree burglary. Police said he was considered armed and dangerous.
Detectives said they got a tip that Harrington might be at the Super 8 Motel on Cox Road in Gastonia. When officers arrived and approached Harrington, he fled in his 1997 Lincoln Continental and struck a police car as he tried to escape, police said.
Officers pursued Harrington through Spencer Mountain to Hickory Grove Road, police said, but as Harrington came to the intersection of Hickory Lane Drive, he collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Harrington jumped from the car and ran, but officers who chased him through several yards took him into custody, police said.
The people in the other vehicle were taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately available.
Investigators searched Harrington's motel room and said they found evidence that linked him to two break-ins that happened earlier Friday in Gaston County.
Harrington now faces charges in connection with the break-ins, the chase and crash. He remained in Gaston County jail Saturday afternoon.
