The winner: To get a good grip of a burned-out light bulb, especially recessed ones, I wear my rubber gloves (dry of course). Works like a charm. Nina Lynch, Lake Wylie

New use for Observer bag

When reviving a dying plant, the Observer plastic bags make a great mini-greenhouse. The Sunday ones work great for small plants. Put the plant, pot and all, into the bag, then tie the top closed. Instant greenhouse! The top can be opened to water. It should also work when trying to root cuttings. Ann Barringer, Albemarle

Who's got the button?

When you buy a garment that has extra buttons attached in a little bag, sew them to an inside seam. Then they are always with the garment, and there's no hunting for them. Rebecca Maupin, Matthews
