Super Bowl season is a great time for deals. Inserts are full of coupons for Super Bowl-friendly foods, and stores will feature the same items on sale in their weekly inserts. Stockpile chips, cheese, dips and frozen appetizers such as chicken strips and pizza.

Be sure to look out for coupon tear pads on grocery store displays. In particular, beer displays may offer coupons on beef, chips and charcoal.

If you're in the market for a new television, now's the time to find good discounts. However, the best deals will happen later in February, when the new models are released. If you can wait, get the new television to watch March Madness.

An estimated 34.9 million Americans threw Super Bowl parties in 2011, according to Bloomberg News, and 61.2 million people planned to attend one.

Whether you're hosting or attending, here are a few budget-conscious suggestions:

Have a potluck party and ask guests to make their best party food.

Use the plates you already have. Disposables cost money and are bad for the environment.

Plan your menu around items you already have or sale items at the grocery store, and don't forget to use corresponding coupons. Visit manufacturers' websites or Facebook pages for extra coupons.

Have mixers available but ask your guests to bring their own alcohol.

Limit the menu to just a few items. Maybe make a big pot of chili for your guests and offer toppings such as cheese, green onions and sour cream.

Tip of the week: Ever get to Target only to realize you left your Target coupons at home? Visit the gift kiosk (usually near Customer Service), access Target's website and print all you need.
