Mark Bosco, appointed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education this week as interim principal at Northwest School of the Arts, knows his way around the Beatties Ford Road campus.
Bosco, 41, was assistant principal at the school for several years in the early 2000s.
He was appointed in the wake of Principal Barry Bowe's death. While Bosco lacks the fine-arts credentials of his two predecessors, he brings a track record of success to the job.
After his tenure at Northwest School of the Arts, he was principal at Quail Hollow Middle School and principal for five years at Independence High.
Bosco was promoted in November to the position of executive director (assistant area superintendent) in CMS' Northeast Zone.
He is known for his organizational skills, and Independence High students' test scores also improved during his tenure.
Bosco also earned points in the Mint Hill community when CMS opened Rocky River High School in 2009 and moved several hundred students into Independence - many of them from Butler High.
A number of parents were unhappy about the move, but Bosco scheduled a series of community meetings, and community leaders said the move went smoothly, for the most part.
Charles LaBorde, a longtime Northwest principal who retired in 2008, and Bowe each had somewhat extensive credentials in the arts community.
