Ex-Maiden band director pleads guilty to indecent liberties charge

A former Maiden High band director pleaded guilty Monday to taking indecent liberties with a student.

The Hickory Daily Record reports Christopher Caldwell, 27, was sentenced to between six to eight months in prison. The sentence was suspended for two years, according to the paper. Caldwell also will be listed on the N.C. Sex Offender Registry, the newspaper reported.

Caldwell was charged in connection with an incident in March of 2010 involving a then-17-year-old student. According to the Daily Record, the teen and Caldwell had previously engaged in texting and sexting, then one day had oral sex in a room at the high school.
