Dear Amy,
Help! I want to "WOW" my fiancee with a cool date. Do you have any creative date ideas for Valentine's Day? -Thomas, Charlotte Groom
My first advice is to always consider what your other half would enjoy. And, sometimes we over think date-night. She may be very happy to share a bottle of wine with you and receive a simple foot massage snuggled up on the couch. Try to recall things she might have mentioned she'd enjoy doing, choose one of those ideas and she'll melt in your arms because you'll win brownie points for paying attention to what she said! In the event you scroll back in thought and don't recall anything she has said, here are a ten crazy romantic date ideas she might enjoy:1. Skydiving: An exhilarating way to quicken the heart, skydiving can make for both a creative date and a creative memory - make sure a photographer documents the occasion!2. Old MacDonald: Spend an afternoon or weekend working at a farm or ranch. Feed livestock, ride horses... go off the beaten path and visit a llama farm. If she is a knitter she'll love the yarn available at the farm's gift shop!3. Try a new sport together: Getting active together is an excellent way to bond. Try rock climbing, biking or hiking. Plan a simple picnic to length the experience and extend the romance. If you are at all nostalgic, take her to the local roller rink and ask her to hold your hand for the "couples skate"!4. Build a fort: Maybe it's raining and she wants to stay in and watch a movie... build a fort and relive your childhood right in front of the TV. Take the sheets and pillows off your bed. Pop popcorn, roast s'mores, make hot chocolate and snuggle in your fort. 5. Do anything new: Have you ever taken the train? Find out your local train schedule and hop on. It's very inexpensive. Take it a few towns away for dinner or a movie or hiking...jump back on and relax, relishing in your fun date!6. Unfamiliar cuisine: Okay, here is your chance to show her you will try anything once. She's always wanted to try Ethiopian or even something as common as sushi. Now is your chance to surprise her with a dinner-date at the restaurant she has always been wanting to try. If dinner is underwhelming, resort to the nearest stand-by favorite! 7. Take a class together: You probably are envisioning the pottery scene from the pop-culture-classic movie Ghost; and, if that is what your girl wants to do, then sign up for a pottery class. She may surprise you. Maybe she'd like to learn how to play golf or BlackJack. Maybe she wants to start learning Spanish or French. Do it together! It will be fun and a great investment in future fun times together!8. Improv: Comedy clubs or comedy nights reside in every city. Cut loose with a few laughs and check our your local club. She'll love the night off from laughing at your jokes!9. Travel Time: Pack two bags, go to the airport and tell her to pick a destination. This is spontaneous, can be budget friendly and you will never forget the trip you took last minute!10. Honeymoon Preview: Where are you going on your honeymoon? Tropical, European? Create cocktails, apps and dinner in celebration of your upcoming honeymoon vacation. Use props and themed foods. It will help you prepare for the trip and get you both excited about your pending vacation.
