Associated Press

SUNRISE, Fla. Mikael Samuelsson had two goals and the Florida Panthers beat Washington 4-2 on Wednesday night.

Stephen Weiss and Shawn Matthias also scored for Florida, and Scott Clemmensen stopped 26 shots. Tomas Fleischmann had a pair of assists for the Panthers, who moved into first place in the Southeast Division - one point ahead of Washington.

Brooks Laich and John Carlson scored for the Capitals, and Michal Neuvirth had 35 saves.

Maple Leafs 1, Penguins 0 James Reimer stopped all 25 shots he faced and Clarke MacArthur scored in the third period to lift host Toronto over Pittsburgh .

The win gave the Maple Leafs a split of a home-and-home set with Pittsburgh one night after the Penguins erased a 4-1 deficit in the third period before pulling out a 5-4 shootout win.

Rangers 1, Sabres 0: Ryan Callahan scored the decisive shootout goal and Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 shots to lead New York to a win at Buffalo.

Callahan scored in the fifth round of the shootout by driving in on Ryan Miller, leaning to his right and snapping a shot into the open left side.

Both goalies earned a shutout, with Miller stopping 29 shots.

Notes:

Referee struck by puck: NHL referee Kelly Sutherland did not return after a deflected shot struck him in the face early in the first period in Buffalo.

Sutherland never went down, but held his face in pain as play was stopped. He did not appear to be cut. The game resumed with one referee and two linesmen.

NHL doles out fines: New Jersey Devils forward Eric Boulton and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll were fined $2,500 by the NHL on Wednesday.

Boulton slashed New York Rangers forward Mike Rupp on Tuesday. Boll delivered an illegal check to the head of Sharks forward Joe Thornton.

Sabres recall Kassian: Buffalo recalled rookie forward Zack Kassian from Rochester of the American Hockey League.

The move was made a day after leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek sustained an upper body injury. Vanek is expected to miss at least a week.
