Forecast: Great today, but prepare for cooler, wet weekend

More Information

Our streak of unseasonably mild days is near an end, and the weekend looks like a good time to stay indoors.

Cool high pressure is forecast to build into the Charlotte region today, and a storm system moving across the Midwest is predicted to spread light rain into the area later Saturday.

The bottom line: Cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, and a bit of rain from Saturday afternoon into early Sunday afternoon.

Rainfall won't be heavy, forecasters say, with a half-inch or less expected to fall. But National Weather Service meteorologists expect the rain to be falling much of the time.

It will be a big change from recent days, which included a high temperature of 71 degrees Thursday.

Today won't be bad, with mostly sunny skies. High pressure will bring a northeast wind into the Charlotte area, and that will lower the high temperatures somewhat from Thursday, with readings in the low 60s. By afternoon, you'll start seeing high clouds increase, as the low pressure system advances.

Skies are expected to turn cloudy tonight, then stay that way through Monday.

Highs on Saturday will be in the low to middle 50s, with the light rain spreading eastward during the day. Forecasters expect the rain to end sometime around midday Sunday, but the highs will only reach the middle 50s again under cloudy skies.

Clouds and highs in the lower 50s are forecast again for Monday, but sunshine is predicted to return by Tuesday.
