On Jan. 29, the youth group and adults from Faith United Methodist Church in Indian Trail brought handmade paper flowers to Jan and Mike Parker of Matthews.

Jan Parker, 46 has cancer. The Parkers were visiting friends in their home when the youths lined up in the friend's front yard holding the paper flowers, completely surprising Mike and Jan when they walked out the front door. The group, accompanied by two guitarist, then began to sing "Sing Hallelujah to the Lord." When the song was over, the group said a prayer, then lined up to give the Parkers hugs and words of encouragement.

That afternoon, the large paper flowers were brought to Mike and Jan's house on Pleasant Plains Road, where they were placed all over the front lawn. Cars driving by the house slow to look at the pink blooms and some even stop to take a picture.
