DAVIDSON On Friday night, Davidson's Chris Czerapowicz wasn't sure he'd be able to play Saturday against Chattanooga because of a stomach virus.
Czerapowicz looked fine Saturday, hitting six 3-pointers in the 88-61 victory over the Mocs.
"Sometimes that kind of toughness carries you through games," Davidson coach Bob McKillop said after Czerapowicz's 21-point performance.
As the Wildcats (17-5, 11-1) head into another Southern Conference game at 7 tonight against Wofford (15-9, 8-4) at Belk Arena, they do so having demonstrated their versatility in two victories last week. They did their most effective work inside in a victory Wednesday at Furman, then lit up Chattanooga with 17 3-pointers Saturday, getting buckets from beyond the arc from seven players.
For Czerapowicz, his big game came after a relatively quiet offensive stretch. It was his first double-figure scoring effort in six games after an impressive stretch that included a 23-point performance in a victory over Penn. A 6-foot-7 sophomore from Sweden, he has been a fixture in the rotation this season, allowing McKillop to keep size on the court despite Czerapowicz being listed as a guard.
"It's helpful to have a 6-7, 6-8 guy who can handle the ball, knock down the 3 and has a great feel for the game," McKillop said.
Czerapowicz was quick to praise his teammates Saturday, pointing to Tom Droney's ability to find him open on the perimeter several times.
"We're just a really deep team and we know each other so well," Czerapowicz said.
The Wildcats have a three-game lead over Wofford in the South Division race and effectively can lock down the No. 1 spot with a victory over the Terriers. Wofford had won six in a row until blowing a seven-point lead in the final 2 minutes, 22 seconds of a home-court loss Saturday to Samford.
