Belmont man reportedly stabs girlfriend after questioning taste of steak

A Belmont man is in jail this morning after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in the neck after questioning her about the way his steak tasted.

The Gaston Gazette reports the girlfriend of Michael William Nivens, 37, says she woke up to the man holding a knife. He asked about the steak, then pulled her hair and stabbed her, the newspaper reported. Nivens had been drinking earlier, his girlfriend told police.

According to the Gazette, Nivens has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
