So who might run for Sue Myrick's seat?

Jim Pendergraph, a Republican Mecklenburg County commissioner and former sheriff. He plans to announce his candidacy this morning. "Sue and I have been friends for 25 years and she's very close," Pendergraph said. "And I just would expect that she would (support me)."

Bill James , a Republican who also serves on the Mecklenburg County Commission. He said he'll decide soon.

Andy Dulin, a Republican Charlotte City Council member. Dulin said he expects to make a decision by week's end: "It's a position I've thought about; it's a position I would be very good at."

Robert Pittenger, former Republican state senator. Notified by a reporter of Myrick's decision while on a mission trip in China, he said: "I am on a mission trip to East Asia and will discuss with my wife and family when I return."

Dan Barry, Republican mayor pro tem of Weddington. Has been running in the crowded 8th District race but actually lives in the 9th.

Democrats Jeff Doctor, who challenged Myrick in 2010, and Jennifer Roberts, a Mecklenburg County commissioner who has announced she won't run for re-election and said she'll decide soon on the Myrick seat. Jim Morrill
