Ray Hernandez

Before getting involved with the arts community, Ray Hernandez completed the 2009-10 Cultural Leadership Program through the Arts & Science Council. Armed with education and passion, he started an apprenticeship with the Levine Museum of the New South. Currently, he is a board member and is on the ASC task force for diversity and inclusion.

Getting involved: Budding board members should check out an event or play to gauge their philanthropic interest. There, they can talk to a volunteer or member. Find what you enjoy and then from there approach them.

Joining a board: A great board member should be passionate about the organization they are a part of. Make sure you're doing it for the right reason. Having a few tricks up your sleeve doesn't hurt either. Be resourceful and know about the broader area.

RSVP: Hernandez is looking forward to the Taste of the New South 2012 fundraising event on March 29. It's a great experience, he said. "We're a big city but we're a very close community, and I think there's really good value in the community as a whole."
