Moms and daughters take in the opera

Once a year during the opera season, Opera Carolina's Ma Mere et Moi group of young opera enthusiasts and their mothers meet for a Brunch with the Maestro before attending a matinee performance. This season's event was Jan. 29 at BLT Steak at the Ritz-Carlton before the final performance of Opera Carolina's production of "Madama Butterfly," with sets and costumes designed by contemporary Japanese artist Jun Kaneko. His vision paired with incredible singers created a sensation, so it's fitting that when Ma Mere et Moi meets for its next annual brunch, it will be for a performance of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" during the 2012-2013 season, which will again feature sets and costumes from Kaneko. If you're interested in joining Ma Mere et Moi, which has a suggested age range of grades seven to 12, email jodi@opercarolina.org.
