By Steve Lyttle

Some sort of debris in the road is causing problems Friday morning for motorists on northbound Interstate 85 in west Charlotte.

And a pedestrian has been struck in Charlotte's uptown area.

The debris was reported by several motorists on I-85 between the Freedom Drive and Glenwood Drive exits. A tractor-trailer suffered a punctured fuel tank from the debris around 6:45 a.m. and is parked on the side of the road.

Motorists should use caution in that area.

Police also report a pedestrian was struck shortly before 7 a.m. at West Trade and Poplar streets, near the Gateway Village area. Traffic is heavily congested in the area, and motorists should find an alternate route until at least 7:45 a.m.

One other problem was reported at 7:30 a.m. That was a collision at Providence Road at Lansdowne Road. Inbound traffic is slow in the area.
