Showing someone you care this Valentine's Day doesn't mean you have to blow your budget:
Don't pay full price: Groupon, Dealsaver, SocialLiving, etc. are constantly offering great ways to get spa services, restaurant deals, fun stuff to do at a great discount. If you give your sweetheart a spa treatment, consider being their chauffeur and handling their daily chores so they can really relax.
Flowers: Skip the roses and pick out something a little different this year. If you have a gardener for a sweetheart, consider packets of seeds so they can start their own special floral creation. If you use a service such as ProFlowers.com, search Google for a coupon code.
Dining: A special meal doesn't necessarily mean white table cloths and expensive entrees. Consider a lunch date or maybe eat at a special spot that has more sentimental value than ambience.
Recently I spoke with Lisa Reynolds, Mom Saver-in-Chief at RedPlum, who had a few other creative tips:
Pull out the old family videos of your wedding day, past vacations, birthday parties, etc. and plan a movie night to walk down memory lane. Cook the meal you had on your first date at home and reminisce on how far you've come.
Jot down all the reasons why you love her or him. All you have to do is type out "I love you because..." notes, fill in the reason, cut them into strips and put them in a bowl (which you can refill each year).
Create an iTunes playlist or burn a CD with favorite and meaningful songs from throughout the years. Include your wedding song, the song you first listened to as a couple and any other songs that have special meaning.
Fill a gift basket with her favorite scented candles, bubble bath or bath beads, rose petals, face mask cream and her favorite nail polish color for an at-home spa day. Warm up hot towels in the dryer to complete her relaxing retreat.
Saving tips of the week
Special coupon events are a great way to get some of the best prices of the year and grow your stockpile. Right now, Lowes Foods has Super Double coupons, and several deals websites are reporting that Harris Teeter will start its Super Double coupon event Wednesday.
