Vance vs. Mooresville at Mallard Creek, Monday, 6:45 p.m.: In many conferences, these two might be champion and runner-up, instead Vance is a No. 5 seed and Mooresville a No. 4. But the I-Meck 4A, like always, is one of the best leagues in the Carolinas. And if you like guards, you'll see some of the best around in the Observer's all-conference picks sophomore Derick Brewer (Vance) and Charlotte signee, senior Shawn Lester (Mooresville).
Independence at No. 7 South Meck, Monday, 7:30 p.m.: Why is Southwestern 4A No. 8 seed Independence playing a No. 1 news? Independence finished the season with games against No. 3 Butler and No. 2 Myers Park. Independence lost those games by a total of four points. South Meck needed overtime, at home, to beat Independence Jan. 31. Patriots star Tayon Gleaves, who averages 13 points, two steals, 2.5 assists per game, will try to help his team spring an upset.
No. 12 Charlotte Christian at No. 2 Providence Day girls, Tuesday, 6 p.m.: Charlotte Christian has played several games without star Gigi Bailey, who has been out sick. But after losing to the Chargers 59-32 on Jan. 27, the Knights must win this game to get at least a share of the CISAA championship.
East Gaston at No. 12 Berry, Monday, 8 p.m.: The ME-GA 7 3A/4A has two guaranteed playoff berths and right now No. 11 Charlotte Catholic and No. 4 Harding have them. How does Berry steal one? It has to win the conference tournament. The journey starts Monday, and if the Cardinals win, they play Sweet 16 No. 1 Olympic, which is unbeaten, in the semifinals Wednesday.
