By Steve Lyttle

No serious injuries were reported when a car ran into the rear of a tanker truck early Monday morning in Charlotte.

The collision was reported about 2:45 a.m. on outbound East Independence Boulevard at Sharon Amity Road, police say.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital, with injuries that were not life-threatening. The truck driver was not hurt.

The wreck forced police to close the outbound lanes of Independence Boulevard for three hours, but those lanes were reopened shortly before 6 a.m.
